Our Take (and Recipe) on Golden Milk
You might know exactly what chocolate milk is and lactose-free milk but there’s a new drink that is getting attention that isn’t as well-established, golden milk.
Quite simply, golden milk is milk with a teaspoon or so of turmeric stirred in. Some recipes also include a little ginger, black pepper, cinnamon or honey for taste.
The beverage has been popping up more and more in the news lately, which may be related to an increase in Google searches on the topic. According to Google Food Trends, earlier this year turmeric rose as one of the hottest food queries, as people searched how to use turmeric and for more information on its health benefits.
Turmeric, which has been around for more than 4,000 years, has a long history of medicinal use.
While many variations of golden milk exist, here’s one recipe you can try at home:
Golden Milk
- 2 cups milk
- 1 tsp. dried turmeric
- ¼ to 1 tsp. dried ginger
- Honey to taste
Place the milk in a saucepan over medium heat. While stirring, add the spices and let the milk come to a simmer. Take the saucepan off the heat, cover and let sit for 10 minutes. Serve warm.
